An NTAG DNA C29 tag from NXP can be used to automatically connect to web services, without the need for a dedicated app. Using these tags, together with web-based authentication services, you can now set up AES‑128 tag authentication, use three-pass mutual authentication (where only an authorised host can access the tag), and establish a secure channel for data transmission.
This NFC sticker is a 29mm diameter sticky label that operates at 13.56 MHz wireless frequency and contains 256 bytes of usable read/write space for NDEF data. Based on the NTAG424 chip from NXP, this sticker provides even higher security than the popular NTAG213 NFC tags, on top of their anti-cloning features and permanent memory write lock. This is down to NXP's new Secure Unique NFC (SUN) message feature, which adds unique authentication into every tap, by counting every tap, and the elliptic-curve-based 'originality signature' that identifies both the tag and data origin. It is a common criteria EAL4 certified device
Subject to memory size, this sticker can store:
- Any type of URI including URLs, telephone numbers, SMS, e-mail and geo-locations
- Plain text or a combination of plain text and a URI
- vCards and signatures

This sticker is NFC forum Type 4 compliant. It has very low power requirements and typically operates at a distance of up to 10cm, depending on the power provided by the NFC‑enabled device or reader. It has been designed to work seamlessly with Android (without an app) or iOS11 (with an app). The NTAG DNA technology is more robust than earlier NTAG labels, retaining data for 50 years and able to endure 200,000 write cycles.
